Implementing Cluster Recognition

In order to implement the cluster recognition, we need to create the cluster tool based on the geometrical information we have calculated earlier. As we use 2X3 staggered tool, then we need to open the database dialog box to create the tool.

We specify the color as red and the Center of cluster is 0.5mm radius. To define the center of cluster, we need to specify a unique radius that will not the same with other round tools that are used in generating this perforated pattern. The purposes of the center of the cluster is as a pivot point to place the cluster tool on the CAD/CAM software to produce the CNC code for manufacturing the image-based perforated sheet metal.

As soon as we create the cluster tool, we need to save into our database by clicking apply. Then we click the fourth button on the tool selection group to activate the cluster tool. When it is clicked, a cluster recognition dialog box will open and we need to click the second button to open the cluster selector dialog box for selecting the cluster tool. After we select it by double clicks the desired cluster, the information on the second button will reflect to the name of the selected cluster tool. After that we close the dialog box and click the Generate button to generate the perforated pattern design with cluster recognition.

The final result will shows some red hole patterns as a result of the cluster recognition. In other word, all the reddish holes are represents the cluster tool that has been used to replace the single tool hits in that location. From the statistic report, we can see that the total single toolhits has been reduce to only 8315 hits and the total single tools that has been replace is 4835 hits. This means that there are 5802 toolhits from 6.0mm round tool that has been replaced by 967 toolhits of cluster tools.
